Tree Fern Fibre, also known as Xaxim, has proven to be an incredibly reliable and effective medium for aroid enthusiasts worldwide. Trust us, it’s a game changer. Now that we’ve included this fantastic component in our range, let’s dive deeper into its benefits within an aroid mix!

We always encourage our customers to experiment and become familiar with their growing mediums, but starting out can sometimes be intimidating. Given that this is a costly component, you certainly don’t want to feel like you’ve wasted it. So, we’re here to give you a head start with some helpful ratios to get you started.

Breakdown and Benefits:

  • Tree Fern Fibre: Provides excellent aeration and helps maintain moisture levels without becoming waterlogged.
  • Fine Bark: Adds structure to the mix, improving drainage and aeration, which prevents root rot.
  • Fine Zeolite: Enhances drainage and retains nutrients, releasing them slowly to the plants.
  • Worm Castings: Acts as a natural fertiliser, supplying essential nutrients and beneficial microbes to promote healthy growth.
  • Coco Coir: Retains moisture well and provides a lightweight medium for roots to grow through, also offering good drainage.
  • Lava Rock: Provides excellent aeration and drainage, helping to prevent water stagnation and root rot.
  • Activated Charcoal: Helps absorb impurities and toxins, keeping the soil mix clean and reducing the risk of root diseases.

Mixing Instructions:

  1. Measure each component by volume.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a large container or on a clean surface.
  3. Mix thoroughly until the components are evenly distributed.

This mix provides a well-balanced growing medium for aroids, promoting healthy root growth and overall plant vitality. Feel free to adjust the mixture according to your plant’s needs, your care habits, and your environmental conditions.

We hope this gives you the confidence to get started with Xaxim, and we’re sure your aroids will thrive in their new, improved medium!
